Bringing History to life Drama Workshops (Lola Oteh)(London Drama in partnership with National Drama)
On Tuesday 23rd May 6-7pm on Zoom we will be joined by Lola Oteh who will encourage us to take a second look at how history could be taught, referencing her play, Our War.
About this session
This session will share a historical context to highlight the need to uplift the global majority narrative, bringing balance to the way history is viewed. It aims to make space to ensure British history is defined by all complexities shades and colours of experiences and the part we, as a society, played in forming it and maintaining it.
Why this session is good to come to
This is a chance to re orient our understanding of how we teach and engage with histories, how we give space to young people to see themselves and their peer’s histories reflected. It will definitely be thought provoking, acting as a catalyst, leading us into constructive dialogue.
Session fee
This session is free.
About the session leader
Lola Oteh-Cole is a female actor and writer as well as a graduate of Goldsmith College. Throughout her career she has performed in various plays and productions working with theatre companies in London and nationally as well as producing her own work through her theatre company, Imole Theatre Company. This is a platform that uses drama and performance as a medium to bring history to life and give a voice to stories that might not always be represented in their full capacities. Her most recent work was the premier of Our War in 2021. Our War was developed from her two years of research into the contribution of African & Caribbean men and women in Britain during World War II.
