Workshop Details
Dr Gill Brigg
Gill will focus on emotional engagement in stories and teaching in role. With over 40 years experience as a cross-phase drama teacher, theatre-maker and advisory teacher, she now specialises in developing SEND practice nationally and internationally.
Chantal Cook
Chantal will offer an insight into how Riverside School embraces immersive practice as an alternative to traditional performance. Her workshop will explore narrative techniques that entice, engage, and enthral the active participants in a flexible environment.
This event is relevant to all teachers working in specialist SEND settings, regardless of previous Drama experience, and across all phases, including post-16.
Additional Information
This one-day workshop includes a range of activities:
- Practical workshops.
- Q&A sessions.
- Theoretical discussions.
- Teachers will leave with a set of adaptable lesson plans to use in their own schools.
- It is hoped that there will be contributions from the pupils at Riverside
- Refreshments: Tea, coffee, and biscuits provided.
- Lunch: Not included. Please bring a packed lunch or explore local options.
- Transport: As this is a regional workshop, attendees are encouraged to use public transport.

About the contributors
Dr Gill Brigg
Gill has over 40 years’ experience as a cross-phase drama teacher, theatre-maker, and advisory teacher. She has worked for the last 20 years in Specialist Schools as a TIE performer, Drama specialist, and class teacher. She now works nationally and internationally, with teachers, actors, and academics, developing their practice with neurodivergent groups.
Chantal Cook
Chantal is Head of Expressive Arts at Riverside School; a specialist school serving children with severe and complex learning difficulties in the London Borough of Bromley with currently 357 pupils, aged 3-19. Riverside School has an Expressive Arts Department, which delivers a rich Arts and Culture programme and partnerships with a wide range of multi-agency partners. Supported by two Music/Drama Specialists, two Dance Specialists and a Creative Technician dedicated to meaningful music, dance, drama and creative arts opportunities for Riverside pupils and their families.

Non-members – Early Bird £50 (before 17th April 2025) & £60 Standard.

The nearest train station to Riverside School Orpington is St Mary Cray Station.
From the station take the Route Bus B14 from Stop: SA towards Bexleyheath Clock Tower or Route Bus R11 from Stop: SA towards Sidcup. You will need to get off at the Midfield Way Stop and we are a 5 minute walk from here. (Main Road is by Homebase).
If you are travelling from Sidcup, take the 51 bus from Station Road. Alight at Midfield Way Stop.
There is limited parking on Main Road near the school but there is no parking allowed on the school site.
