About The Paper Birds
The Paper Birds is a devising theatre company, with a social and political agenda. They are recognised as UK leaders in verbatim theatre. They are artists, investigators, entrepreneurs and educators. They pride themselves on taking complex, multi-faceted subjects and making them accessible. They have an artistic programme and a creative learning programme and nurture both equally.
Previous excellent productions include Broke, In a Thousand Pieces and Thirsty and they’ve recently launched The School of Hope, a digital arts project for young creatives! Every school who has ever had them in cannot wait till they come back!
Why Drama Matters
Drama Matters because it provides young people in every school, from all backgrounds, with a voice. Whether we shout out to the auditorium or stand at the back, drama provides all of us who take part with a platform to be heard and make our mark. It is central to building skills in collaboration, social cohesion and hard work. If you’ve studied drama, you can do anything!
Why Paper Birds Are Patrons
The Paper Birds is proud to be a patron of National Drama. As a female led organisation from working class roots, the route to working in the theatre industry would not have been open to us if we had not had inspiring drama teachers at our state funded comprehensive schools. We believe that drama is a right for every child, and only if we continue to promote its merit, will we have the diverse artists of the future.
